Automatic transmission oil, including DSG, must be changed approximately every 80,000 kilometers. However, if the power unit overheats regularly, the oil must be changed regardless of the mileage.

The original oil must be used when changing the oil in Volkswagen cars. According to the manufacturer's regulations, third-party products can be used if they meet VAG Group's requirements.

When changing the lubricant, the oil filter must be changed, otherwise the new oil quickly loses its properties. Our experts also check the car's air filter when we change the oil.

Today, almost every second car has an automatic transmission (AT). Most motorists know the advantages of Volkswagen's AT transmission: comfort, extended engine life, driving mode selection (sporty, winter). Oils designed for mechanical transmissions are not suitable for AT transmissions, so different types of oils (ATF) have been developed. Servicing the Volkswagen AT gearbox is essential for every car, even though its manual does not mention oil changes at all.

AT transmission oil has several functions, and each of them sets its own requirements for its properties. It is used:

That is why it is important to maintain a constant oil level in Volkswagen's AT gearbox. Although the oil does not leak out, its volume decreases by 0.1-0.2 liters due to evaporation (working temperature 130-140 °C) in about 1-1.5 years or 10-15 thousand kilometers. A low oil level leads to severe wear and malfunctions of the AT gearbox.

Signs of a low oil level in the Volkswagen AT gearbox:

The reasons for the drop in the oil level in the Volkswagen AT gearbox:

That is why it is recommended to check the oil level of the AT gearbox every time in connection with the technical inspection of the Volkswagen car. Nothing extends the life of an AT transmission better than changing its oil on time. AT transmission oil must be changed immediately if it turns dark or smells like burnt oil.

The oil is changed every four years or every 70-80 thousand kilometers, and in severe operating conditions of a Volkswagen car (taxi, rural or mountainous areas, often towed) every 30 thousand kilometers. In the "automatic" only special "oil" (more properly called liquid) ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) is used. It is externally red and practically does not smell at all. The use of other oils is not recommended, unless otherwise specified in the manufacturer's recommendations.

A complete oil change is performed with a special device. It is connected to the oil system of the AT system and enables a complete exchange of the old oil with the new one. This procedure is performed in three steps:

This approach ensures a 100 percent oil change. In addition, the oil change takes place under pressure, and the first liters of ATF flush the AT system, which removes old oil, metal shavings and deposits from the system.
