2016 Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 TDI timing chain kit replacement

In our workshop, we repaired a 2016 Volkswagen Touareg 3.0 TDI with abnormal metallic rattling on cold start and unstable idle. Diagnostics confirmed timing chain stretch along with wear of the guides and the tensioner.

We performed the timing chain kit replacement:

- Disassembly of the front engine section to access the timing drive - Removal of the old timing chain, guides and tensioner - Installation of a new timing chain kit - Timing alignment check with special tools - Seal and O-ring service, fresh engine oil, and system testing

After the repair, the engine starts smoothly, the noises are gone, and no active fault codes return.
